Overview

The illustrated option provides i-Player connection to an existing home network (Local Area Network - Lan) incorporating a dedicated surface mounted CAT 5 cable feed which is installed between the STB/ IDTV (i-Player enabled) and the Customers Network Router.(Existing Freesat dish in situe and connected to the Freesat HD receiver)

Summary

This option is based upon presuming the Customer has an adequate broadband service connected to their Home Network Router the cabled solution will enable the Customer to access video on demand (VOD) type services (where available) on their main television. (Example – BBC i- Player 7 day library etc)

The i-Player connection option is designed to provide Customers with a permanent hard wired solution between their HD Freesat Receiver (STB/IDTV) an existing Home Network Router. (Please note that some Customers may prefer to adopt a Freesat ‘Home Plug’ type network connection as an alternative to the CAT 5 cable solution if their Freesat receiver is more than 15m distance from their Network Router)
Broadband Requirements (Minimum recommended speed for i-Player operation = 1mbps)

  • The site MUST have an EXISTING Broadband service and an operational Home Network Router which has spare capacity (A free port) to provide an Ethernet connection to the Freesat satellite receiver (STB/ IDTV) via a CAT 5 cable.
  • The installation option includes the provision and installation of SINGLE (1) surface mounted CAT 5 type cable up to 15m in length between the Freesat receiver and the Network Router.
  • The new CAT 5 cable may be internally/ externally routed around the property using suitable cable (UPVC EXT Cable) to provide the new network connection Home Network Router and the Freesat Receiver. It is normal practice for the internal CAT 5 cable to fastened/ clipped to the top edge of skirting board to minimise the need for any additional wall drilling or disturbance to the room decor.
  • On completion of the CAT 5 cable installation the Engineer will proceed to demonstrate the available RED button i- Player functionality on the Customers HD Freesat receiver.
  • Please note that Customers may be required to reconfigure their Home Network Fire Wall protection to accommodate the new i-Player services and due to the nature of domestic broadband services TSG are unable to take any responsibility for i- Player performance issues that may possibly be caused by interruptions or bandwidth reductions to the Customers broadband service or home network configuration.
